My mother always told me to be nice to people in the service industry, like waiters and clerks - they are not there because they want to (ok, maybe they are) but because they have to earn a living. On the other hand, I am there because I want to eat in that restaurant, buy that jacket or see that movie. And if they return the kindness, it is good for everyone.
